While having lunch with one of my friends that is a dedicated teacher, an idea popped into my head, "these people really need some extra special care." Teachers are very special people. They mentor our children, shape their lives, help parents with their parenting skills and are incredible models of patience, understanding, and tough love. So often they don't feel appreciated and feel insecure about their abilities. So for the next 4 weeks, September 4 through September 28, I am offering all teachers in Plumas County a 30% discount on a one hour massage. That is an $18 dollars savings.
Spread the word! Teacher's Rock! And they can get a much needed hour all to themselves, away from the frazzle of back to school days, until the end of September. You can also pass on the savings by purchasing a Gift Certificate for your Favorite Teacher for the same 30% discount price during this month's special. All teachers are invited to take advantage of this special whether you are at public school, private school, charter school, Sunday school, college or a private teacher of a creative art or physical activity. All teachers are welcome! Call for your appointment today! (530) 616 - 0032

I love teaching Tai Chi (and Yoga as well) because I learn so much from my students. A student in Quincy expressed this after our last class Wednesday night and it made me think. What exactly is "a rinse cycle for the head" and how does Tai Chi apply. Think of what the rinse cycle does in a dishwasher or washing machine, it cleans out all the soap, dirt and gunk and leaves the dishes or clothes squeaky clean. That is what Tai Chi does for the mind. It cleans all the clutter chatter of the mind and leaves it calm and clear. According to Everyday Tai-Chi http://www.everyday-taichi.com/tai-chi-benefits.html, clearing and relaxing the mind is the most immediate benefit of Tai Chi and you will notice the difference after your first class. Obviously this is what my student was experiencing after class on Wednesday. In a web article called Mind-Body Synergy from Experience Life!, the author, Kermit Pattinson, says, "A growing amount of scientific evidence has linked mind-body exercises to improvements in balance, mental health, emotional well-being and stress reduction. These exercises power down the sympathetic nervous system – your fight-or-flight response – and power up the parasympathetic system, which induces rest and relaxation." This surge of energy to the parasympathetic nervous system is what is clearing out the head, so to speak. So the next time you are in need of a Head Rinse, don't grab your shampoo & conditioner in the shower, clear your mind in your local Tai Chi class. Classes run on Wednesdays in Greenville & Quincy. The Compassionate Communication workshop at the UMC Social Hall today was a great success. Everyone that attended was introduced to Non-Violent Communication and it's founder, Marshall Rosenberg. The presenters, Eric and Jennifer Anderson of Chico, Ca. encouraged the attendees to retain two concepts from the lesson; become a Needs detective and go Outside for empathy. What they meant by a Needs detective is look beyond what someone is saying to you to the basic human need that is underneath; connection, honesty, peace, autonomy to name a few. To go Outside for empathy we were encouraged to talk to one to three people a week that would just listen and feedback our feelings and needs without giving advice or opinion. One other important concept that the group was interested in was re-regulating the nervous system when a feelings became overwhelmingly triggered. Ways to do this include taking sips of a drink, chewing ice, rocking, swinging, walking, singing, dancing, hugging, and deep breathing.
